Philadelphia is the World’s leader of public Mural, we have well over 3,000 of them and growing monthly.
Back in 1987 a few boys were sentenced by a judge to paint a mural on the side of a building. These boys were convicted of graffiti. So their punishment was painting a mural. This worked out wonderfully and the next group convicted of graffiti were given the same sentence. This grew into something really big…soon a lot of people were offering to paint murals. Neighbors, student of the University of the Arts and regular people wanted to participate in this project. The most amazing thing is that some of these murals are located in our roughest areas….yet NOT ONE is destroyed, or painted over or graffitied on, on any of the murals!
If you are interested in this eye candy tour, I will be happy to take you to see many of them.
